What
is cupro nickel?
The
cupro nickel family belongs to the most corrosion resistant
of all copper alloys. They contain over 50 % copper and as
the major alloying element up to 45 % nickel. They are resistant
to moisture, un-oxidised acids, soaps and saline solutions,
organic acids and against dry gases like oxygen, chlorine,
chloride, fluoride, sulphur dioxide, and carbon dioxide. Stress
corrosion fractures do not occur with these alloys.
In the past this particular ability of resistance to corrosion
lead to cupro nickel being used in the production of coinage.
The oldest coins which have survived to present day have been
dated to 235 BC. They were discovered in Uzbekistan and consisted
of a similar alloy to that used for the old 1 DM and 50 pfennig
coils, ie approximately 75% Cu and 25 % Ni.
We produce cupro nickel tubes in the alloys of CuNi10 and
CuNi20 in coils or in straight lengths. These tubes are finished
in accordance with
DIN 1755/17671/17664
DIN EN 12449
and also to special customer requirements.
